Children in the national capital are in for a special treat as
the five-day Golden Jubilee Film Festival, where 29 films for kids
would be screened, was inaugurated Tuesday.
"Nandu Ka Raja", directed by Shaleen Sharma, kick-started
the festival which has three categories - classic, popular and regional.
Inaugurating the festival, Congress president Sonia Gandhi urged
filmmakers to make more culture-oriented film for children. She
said films for children should be directed at bringing them together
and inculcating in them the scientific approach of mind.
Organised by the Children Film Society of India (CFSI), the festival
would also highlight the advance technology in film making with
a special section on digital films. Minister of Information and
Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said from next year, children
would not be required to pay any charges for watching CFSI films.
Films to be screened include "Jaldeep" by Kedar
Sharma, "Dak Ghar" by Zul Vellani, "Charan
Das Chor" by Shyam Benegal, "Aasman Se Gira"
by Pankaj Parashar, "Kabhi Pass Kabhi Fail" by
Veerendra Saini, "Tora" by Jahnu Barua and "Gharaksharangal"
by Salim Padiyath.
CFSI chairperson Nafisa Ali Sodhi said the society was considering
instituting a national award for the best children's film from next
year. During 2005-06, CFSI reached out to 2.43 million children
by arranging over 5,600 film shows across the country.
